CLP say in their annual report that they are being approached by landowners adjacent to development sites about the possibility of extending projects. It is not known whether this is already happening locally but it is a probable threat. The view of Cumbria County Council is that the Lune and Eden Valleys are targets for further development.
Barkin Lot, Northwest of Kirkby Lonsdale, was turned down in 1998 but a new planning application for 6 x 100 metre high turbines to be installed very close to the original site and known as the Armistead development was lodged with South Lakeland District Council (SLDC)on 25th March 2008.
Objections should be received by SLDC by 23rd May 2008 at the very latest but ideally well before then.

Developers have also shown interest in building wind turbine sites on Leck Fell,
east of Kirkby Lonsdale and Dalton Cragg near Burton-
Once wind generation sites start to spread, they are difficult to stop.
If they gain a foothold, the planning authorities will have less and less power to turn down further planning applications.
Those who live in the Lune valley and all those who respect and enjoy its landscape have only one opportunity to object to this application when it is made. If planning permission is granted we have no right of appeal. Unfortunately the developers can come back time and again and so we have to stay on our guard.
In the case of Cragg Lot near Arkholme there can be little doubt that CLP will submit a planning application.
As can be seen above there is a substantial risk that more applications will follow.
When they do, there will be only a small window of opportunity to object. If you do not wish to see your landscape disfigured for ever then join our campaign to discover how best to object.
