Do not think for a minute that this and other developments in the Lune Valley are inevitable.  About one third of all applications are turned down.  It is the City Councillors who make the decision and the strength of local opposition is a key factor in ensuring that this and any future applications fail.

The most important thing you can do is to object.  The next most important thing you can do is to get your friends and family to object.

Until the planning application is received by the City Council we cannot do much more than plan and organise.  It is likely that the developers will choose an inconvenient time such as a holiday period to submit their application.  The scoping assessment enquiry was submitted just after Christmas when most people’s minds were on other things.  It is best to have your objection letter ready prepared so that it can go to the City Council at a moment’s notice.  The period for doing this could be as little as three weeks.  We can alert you at the appropriate time.  We will also critically review the planning application and environmental statement and outline key objections.  We have appointed expert specialists to do this.

The Planning Committee is much more likely to take serious notice of a large number of differing objections from individuals rather than a standard letter or multiple signature petition so it is important that any objection is phrased in your own words.  We can however give you some idea of the points that the Planning Committee will be considering.

Make sure that your local Councillor is aware of your opinion.  He or she is there to represent your views.  (see www.lancaster.gov.uk for details)
